If you are using ESX 3.0.x, there is an issue with the Debian lenny OS that censornet uses.

The kernel doesn't come with the driver to run the LSI SCSI bus correctly. This can cause two main problems:

1. If you've downloaded the virtual appliance, then it will appear to hang when booting. 2. If you are installing censornet from scratch, it will be unable to see the disk when setting up the partitions in the partition manager.

There is a simple fix for this. All you have to do is change the SCSI bus driver from LSI to BusLogic?. This will cause the virtual appliance to throw up all sorts of warning dialogs the first time it runs, however you can just click "Ok" on all of these and the system will boot. To do this, open the settings dialog for the virtual machine, and click on the SCSI bus option in the main tab. This will then present you with a button to press to change the SCSI bus. Press it, change the bus to BusLogic? and ok back to the main screen. Then run the virtual machine and "OK" the messages that appear.

LSI is the best choice of SCSI bus for censornet, however in terms of performance, there's little difference between the two. It may run a little slow the first time it boots, however after a reboot, it performs as expected.

NOTE: This only affects ESX 3.0.x. The issue does NOT exist in the ESX 3.5.x servers.
