Synopsis: Windows update fails when using Inline mode and displays Microsoft error 80072f8

To fix this issue you need to install the CensorNet CA certificate in the Trusted Root Authority of the Web browser AND the Computer account.

To install the certificate in the Web browser please follow our SSL Certificate Installation Guide.

To install the certificate on the computer account, follow these steps:

  1. Save a copy of the certificate by going to http://_ip.of.censornet_/censornet/get_ca_cert.php
  2. Go to Start -> Run and type "mmc"
  3. Go to File / Add or Remove Snap-in
  4. Click the Add button
  5. Select "Certificates" snap-in
  6. When prompted, choose the "Computer account" radio button
  7. Click finish and close the snap-in menu
  8. Expand the certificate contains and right click on Trusted Root Authorities, then choose All Tasks -> Import.
  9. Select the CensorNet certificate you saved in option 1.
  10. Restart Internet Explorer and retry Windows Update.

You should also ensure that .windows.com and .windows.com:443 are added to the Filter Bypass list.
